Roughly 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Law enforcement report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then found multiple other marked cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police report preliminary tests suggest the fluid was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to its source; authorities are not yet aware of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.
City officials announced they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the residents for information.
A senior representative commented the vandalism left him stunned and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing attack in 2020," he stated on a platform, referring to the death of nine people by a gunman focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
